Why EAS (electronic article surveillance) equipment?

When you stop and think about it, you are already in the “retail security” business. In fact, historically, the entire cash register/POS industry was developed as an anti-theft tool. In 1884, John H. Patterson purchased two of James Ritty’s “Incorruptible Cashier” machines specifically to securely process cash transactions in his store. With the “Sounding of the bell that was heard around the world”, the National Cash Register Company was born. So was the application of technology to address the security concerns of retailers.
