The National Retail Security Survey dramatically
illustrates the impact shoplifting has on retail
businesses. Shoplifting accounted for 32% of retail
losses in 2006.
Shoplifting is the second largest source of inventory
shortage, surpassed only by employee theft.
According to Dr. Richard Hollinger, University of
Florida, "Stealing by customers cost American retailers
a staggering $13 billion over the past year".
